The Whistleblower Protection Act gives people who intend to submit a report the right to choose whether they contact an internal company reporting office or call an external federal or state reporting office. However, the Whistleblower Protection Act also stipulates that reports should be given to an internal body if this can be used to effectively combat the violation and if people who provide the whistleblower do not have to fear reprisals (Section 7 Para. 1 HinSchG).

External federal reporting offices have currently been set up

  • at the Federal Office of Justice
  • at the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority and
  • at the Federal Cartel Office.
